I noticed that there is a white fused boxed(Wylex brand with 45amp and on/off switch) adjacent to the big consumer unit(Wylex black one with several fuses-not the modern one). Amazinly that switching that on/off swith on the white box doesn't have any effect in my supply...so what it supposed to be?!;) Please don't say it is the meter!!!It doesn't have any digits!!!;)

  1. I bet she is disconnected electrically and just left up.For some reason.

    Don't let it worry you.

  2. I would say it was for a now redundant Shower,Cooker,Shed/Garage etc just leave it alone & don't worry about it

  3. I am useless with technical stuff and I have been accused of having paranoia and madness for such a question lol!

  4. Do you have an electric shower in your property sounds like the consumer unit for a shower, or some large powerd item of this nature.

  5. At one time or another someone probably had a spa or pool filter hooked to it. It is just a disconnect for something that is no longer there.

  6. It could be the fuses for night storage heaters which have been removed in the past,(I have one too)

  7. If the switch says 45 Amp on the handle (switch itself is labled), it is a circuit breaker.

If there are fuses in the same box, disconnect them one at a time and see if anything turns off.

If after this nothing happens, put it back the way it was before you started and leave it alone. (It is probably not used)

If you really have to know, get a "Licensed Electrician" to trace any circuits coming to and leaving the box.

( it might be a transfer switch for an emergency generator that is't hooked up).

Good Luck and Be Safe ! ! !

  8. Probably added to supply a shower or some other heavy current user, there must have been no spare ways in the old consumer unit. If you have a shower, see if it works with the Wylex turned off, this will confirm.
