Question:

Unifying the heavyweight titles?

Since Samuel Peter beat Oleg Maskaev, Vitali as WBC champion emeritus gets to face Samuel Peter now for the WBC title.

Supposing he wins, that leaves 3 champions- Wladimir as IBF, WBO and IBO champion, Chagaev as WBA champion and Peter as WBC champion.

Assuming Vitali beats Peter, although that's no guarantee given his long layoff they will both be forced to face each other in a unification match. Chagaev is no match for either Klitschko as far as I'm concerned.

Since both brothers refuse to fight each other, won't they be disgracing the division which needs just one linear champion?

  1. Yes, which is why I am actually kind of hoping that Peter will beat Vitali, so that there will be a rematch/unification between Peter and Wladimir.  The winner of that fight will be the first true heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis retired.  Chagaev strikes me as one of the European fighters who just wants to milk his title for all its worth (which isn't that much), and he might lose his title in his upcoming rematch with Valuev.  If Vitali beats Peter, then you are right, we will not be in any better position than we are now, because as you already stated, the brothers will not fight each other.  And since Wladimir is number 1 and the winner of Peter-Vitali will be number 2, then the only way to get a true champion is for the top two fighters to fight each other (the belts that they hold mean nothing, only the Ring Magazine belt is the true champion's belt).  That is why I am hoping for Wladimir to rematch Peter.

  2. no one will unify until Wlad retires.

    or David Haye fights him.....

    whichever comes first.

  3. Thumbs up to mrraravis, I agree.  The belts are meaningless, and their sanctioning bodies are about as corrupt as rust.  I applaud Wladmir's efforts thus far, and once he disposes of Chagaev, questionable chin and all, in my eyes he will have jabbed his way to the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, something we haven't had since Lennox Lewis.  Love him or Hate him, you must respect his efforts.

  4. david haye will unify the division within 2 years

  5. Yea, but i dont think Vitali could beat anyone in the top 5, peter showed power and good techinical skills in his last fight, vitali is coming off a huge layoff and when hes in training he always seems to get hurt, so i dont  think this would ever happen.  Plus you have guys like povetkin and David haye from cruiserweight who looks really good and povetkin is wlads mandatory.  I think with wlads glass chin anything is possible.  But i guarantee vitali will never get a belt in the heavyweight division again.

  6. As far as I'm concerned if Wladimir beat Chagaev he would be the unified champion possessing 4 of the 5 belts and since he had already beaten Samuel Peter in a title elliminator beating him again would prove very little anyhow. IF Wladimir has cleaned out a division with the exception of his older brother what more can you really ask of him? Vitali would probably forfeit the title after a short reign anyhow due to his frequent injuries and Wladimir would surely pick it up sooner than later.
