Question:

Uninsured motorist coverage?

If I have medical insurance already and I get hurt in an accident with another driver who was at fault and did not have insurance, couldn't I just file a claim with my medical insurance and get treatment from that instead of worrying about uninsured motorist coverage? It seems like an unnecessary coverage if I have medical benefits. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

  1. Yeah but w/out uninsured motorists you won't be paid for your vehicle damage if an uninsured motorists hits you...

  2. uninsured moterist coverage means that your car ins. will pay the medical and property damage claims for you and then attempt to get their money back from the person without ins. if you would rather pay your own medical deductibles and car repair bills. then go to court to get your money back from some one that can not afford liabilty ins. go ahead.you will not like the results.

  3. the medical coverage is not for you its for if you hit someone and they had to go to the doctor

  4. the only difference is that the uninsured motorist coverage would cover your property damage up to $3500, your medical coverage won't cover that. but if you have comprehensive/collision coverage that will cover up to KBB value

  5. Maybe.  Some states, and/or some health insurance policies, won't pay for injuries that happen in a car.  This is particularly true in "no fault" states.

You'll have to check with your health insurance carrier to see how their policy applies.
