Union Mine sweeps West Campus – Volleyball news
The Union Mine boys volleyball team had a match with their counter parts from West Campus on Monday.
The competition between the two sides did not take much long to reach its close as the home team was able to end up on the winning side by making a clean sweep over their opponents.
The West Campus squad did not give much competition to their rivals in the entire match except for in the second set of the game but still could not swing things in their favour. By the time that the match had ended, the score board showed the following
final set scores: 25-15, 27-25 and 25-17.
The coach of the Diamondback squad expressed himself by making the following comments on the match, “We’ve played Oak Ridge and Whitney so far and played tough but lost so we know we can play well. Now we’re starting league and tonight was the first game
(of the season) we’re supposed to win so the test was can we do that.”
The Diamondbacks were better than their rivals in almost all aspects of the game. However, the Union Mine boys were far superior in both the attacking as well as the defensive side. The home side kept the pressure on their opponents by displaying superior
volleyball skills in all frames of the games.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams coming out strong against each other but the Diamond backs were able to get the lead before long. Once they had the lead, they were able to leave their opponents trailing behind as they went on to
grab the first frame of the game at 25-15.
The loss of the opening frame enabled the West Campus side to rally together and step up their performance. Despite the fact that the guests put in an impressive effort to swing things in their favour, they were unable to get hold of the second set as the
home team went on to bag another win at 27-25.
The confidence generated from winning the first two sets of the game enabled the home team to get hold of the third set as well at 25-17.
