Union Pacific Jobs?

I'm getting out of the military soon and was looking at maybe getting a job with Union Pacific. In the military I worked on diesel engines, but right now I'm leaning more toward the train service job and was wondering if anyone here had any additional information for me. What kind of tests do they give you? Hears something about a reading test. The website says your pretty much on-call, which I dont have a problem with, so when they contact you it says they give you 90 mins to get to work. Just wondering how the starting pay and how many hours I would be getting. And is there anything else I should know before applying. Thanks.

Well, if you can handle the military, you can handle the UP.  They are quite similar in the way they operate, except for the military takes much better care of its members.  Thank you for your service.

Yes, there is a reading and comprehension test, which should be no problem. Eye sight good, color perception good, hearing good and in good physical condition is plus, plus, plus.

Basic mathematical skills needed.

On call around the clock. 90 minute call to work. Long hours. Long time away from home. Demanding work. Good pay.

How many hours? They'll be happy to work you 'til you puke. If a young man, looking for a satisfying yet demanding career (it is not a job), want to hump and make some cash, this is for you.

Good time to be hiring out as well. There's a major turnover in the seniority roster every 30 to 35 years, as a result of lots of hiring during WWII in the early 40's. The cycle is again upon us.

Yes, Union Pacific is hiring, recently saw a full page ad requesting resumes.  Check with UP on line for which jobs are available, and further info.  Each job has it's own pay rate, thus no set starting pay can be given.

On call 24/7 ,if you want a day off you call in and lay off that 24 hours.90 Min's means you have to count driving time to the site also. So don't live to far away.The way they count hours is different. I don't work for them a Friend does and its something like you can work 12 hours on the train then if your unlucky you wait an hour for the van,and get more people along the way.So you may have worked 14 or more hours.
