Union Rags will take on Creative Cause to decide the fate of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile
The Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011, is coming down to be a two horse race, with their precious coast prides on the line the morning line favourite Union Rags representing the east side will take on the rampant west side runner Creative Cause.
The 2-year-old Dixie Union colt, out of Tempo by Gone West, Union Rags will head the 13 horse field, and he will break from post number 10 with odds of 2 to 1.
Trained by Michael Matz for owner Phyllis M. Wyeth, Union Rags is coming to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with the perfect record of 3 for 3, and he will look to keep his record intact in the Breeders’ Cup race.
Union Rags is coming off a win in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes over at 1 mile on dirt at Belmont Park on 8 October, 2011. The juvenile colt showed his talent and class when he overcame trouble to impressively bag the Champagne Stakes, while he defeated Alpha and Right to Vote on the way to top the distance in 1 minute and 35.55 seconds.
Union Rags will break from post number 10, and will run over the distance of 1 1/16 miles for the first time in his career. He will negotiate the two turns for the first time, and it remains to be seen if has what it takes to go the distance.
On the other hand the winner of the Grade 1 Norfolk Stakes is Creative Cause who will be representing the west coast. The Norfolk hero is 3 for 4 so far and he will look to continue his good run as he exits from a very well negotiated 1 1/16 mile long Norfolk Stakes.
His only set back was in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity Stakes where he finished 2nd behind Drill, over at seven furlongs at Del Mar on 7 September, 2011.
The son of Giant’s Causeway, out of Dream of Summer by Siberian Summer, Creative Cause has been tested over at 1 1/16 miles, but on poly track and the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is run over the same distance but on dirt.
