Some tips about frosting it would be great and appreciated!!!!!

  1. Here a the steps to make a rubber duck cake at home

    Things You’ll Need:

    1 package yellow cake mix

    1 1/4 cups water

    1/3 cup oil

    2 eggs

    1 can vanilla frosting

    1 tuble black icing

Food coloring in yellow, red and blue

    Toothpicks

    Skewer

2 blue candy-coated chocolate pieces such as M&Ms

    2 large yellow gumdrops

Step1  Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a one and a half quart oven-safe bowl, and two large ten ounce and one small six ounce custard cup. Combine cake mix, water, oil and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Pour one-half cup of batter into each large ten ounce custard cup. One-third cup of batter into the small six ounce custard cup. Pour the rest into the oven-safe bowl. Place in the oven. Put the bowl in first. Make sure the custard cups are in the front.

Step2  Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, then remove. Cool on wire rack for 15 minutes. Bake cake in bowl for 50 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick can be inserted and removed without any traces of batter. Place on wire rack and let cool for 30 minutes.

Step3  Prepare one-half cup of white frosting. (Put aside a half teaspoon for later use.) Place in medium bowl with yellow food coloring. Mix well until frosting appears "rubber ducky yellow."

Step4  Slice the tops of the cakes (removed from the custard cups) so each is flat on top. Cut an inch of cake off the top of the large bowl and save for later. Place the cake (taken from the bowl) on a platter flat side down. This will be the duck's body. Cut the smallest cake in half. These will be wings. Attach the wings to the body with toothpicks.

Step5  Frost one side of one of the larger custard bowl cakes with yellow frosting. Press the flat side of the second larger custard bowl cake to it to form the duck's head. Attach the head to the body with a skewer. Cut two one-inch triangles from the reserved slice of cake to make tail feathers. Use frosting to stick the feathers to the body. Use toothpicks as necessary.

Step6  Frost the cake with the yellow frosting. When finished, retrieve the spoonful of white frosting that was set aside earlier to spread on each side of the head. The white will be used to make the duck's eyes, so place a blue candy in the center of each. Outline with black icing.

Step7  Stir red and yellow food color into the three tablespoons of frosting. Flatten the gumdrops and cut into two large triangles to make a beak for the duck. Attach the triangles to the duck's head using toothpicks. Frost with orange frosting.

Step8  Add blue food color to the remaining frosting. Mix well. Frost the platter to give the appearance that your duck is swimming in water. Remember, your little ducky should be in the center of the blue frosting.

  2. why not do a layer cake with strawberries in the middle. Frost it with white Icing, and get a real rubber ducky & put it on top!  (use dental floss to cut, well cooled, layers!)

  3. I would bake separate layer cakes, rather than trying to cut one.  (I've found that process quite difficult, even with the floss.)  You can buy a strawberry topping, and that is less slippery than just using sliced strawberries.  It's very important to let it cool all the way before you assemble or frost it.

One way to decorate with the ducky theme would be to buy or make frosted duck sugar cookies.  You could do one big one, followed by several little ducklings, around the side of a round cake, and maybe top it with a duck shaped candle.

  4. How about a big diaper

  5. Ok it's a bit of a cheat. But go buy white frosting and mix yellow food coloring, in to it. For the outside, the inside use strawberry jam, if you eat it the next day, It shouldn't go all gooey. To cut it wait until it is cold, then use a really sharp non serrated knife , and you should be good to go. ps happy birthday

ok just saw the answer above me... ignore mine lol

  6. The best cake I have ever had was at a store called Randlalls, Im not sure if you have one there - anyhow the cake is called a Fresh Strawberry Bar Cake -  this is what is in it

White cake split in half, then filled with fresh sliced strawberries and parisienne cream. Topped with Elite icing and hand-selected whole strawberries in a strawberry glaze.

  7. First birthdays are a big deal well mayby for everyone except the birthday baby...I am not sure if I would risk making the cake for such a special day.  There is so much going on pictures people kids......If you do decide to make your own make sure you know what your doing.  Pravtice on a cake before.  Might be cheeper to buy a cake or go with a theme like this http://www.celebrateexpress.com/celebrat...

but here are some links to help you decide what you want to do.
