Question:

Unique fundraising ideas in order to conserve rainforests?

Next year, my boyfriend and I are travelling to Indonesia as volunteers in order to do conservation work in the rainforests there. This work is vital to help protect the forests and all the creatures that live there.

The trip will cost us approximately £4000 each... At the moment we are in college so getting the money from a job would be difficult.

The organisation we are travelling with (Operation Wallacea), send out fundraising packs to volunteers so that they may officially raise the money.

Now we just need to think of some interesting and unique fundraising ideas that will help us obtain the money we need. So, has anyone got any ideas?

  1. First of all, awesome!

Well, you could do bake sales, fun runs.

You know charity bazaars and stuff, do that except to raise money for protecting the rainforest. Make it a fun day, car wash, stalls, face paint for kids.

If thats not possible you could start your own business around college, making stuff and selling it. Or sell second hand stuff.

I remember we used to make cards and bookmarks, and my friends used to buy cheap flip flops (like really crappy ones) and would wrap them up in ribbons, and sew sequins on. They made quite a bit of cash.

Aw good luck, I think I blabbed on a a little!

  2. Sponsor teddy bear parachute jump from the church bell tower?  Got to get the hunky firemen to hold a blanket under to catch them and all the local school kids teddies to volunteer.  All those parents and grandparents will be handing over the money and maybe spin off ideas like teddy in a paracute cake for auction?

  3. First off all gratitude for your dedication for nature!

I think you can raise funds by some presentation to business house and public presentation on rainforest and what local community is paying for maintain these rainforest.  (They have to sacrifice developmental projects, move to away from their homes for bred and butter, and many such problems)

Another thing you can do is show these presentations to school children and organize painting competition and raise funds by shelling these paintings.

Contact any local organization, which is working for rainforest in Indonesia, they may afford your food and lodging.

  4. You need to approach some businesses..ice cream parlors, fast food places, etc. and make a deal with them to "represent" you for one night...or for 4-5 hours, where all the profits they make during that time...a small portion will go to you.  You can help advertise this by passing out flyers to bring in more business during that time..so both the restaurant and you will benefit.
