A 4-wicket haul by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shaiman-Anwar-Butt-c89533’s half-century, saw the United Arab Emirates securing a 7-wicket win over Saudi Arabia in their Group B match during the ongoing Asian Cricket Council Trophy Elite 2012, played on October 4 at the
Nursery Oval in Abu Dhabi.
Saudi Arabia won the toss and chose to bat first – however, it proved to be a poor decision, with the batsmen registering excessively disappointing scores as the UAE’s Ahmed Raza (8-2-25-4), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amjad-Javed-c44094 (10-2-27-2) picked them
off one by one.
Only three batsmen managed to contribute double-digit scores – Omar http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nadeem-Al-Nadwi-c78393, Omar Zafar, Hassan
Malik, and Nazeer Faaroqui – were dismissed on duck.
Khurram Khan took care of the last three batsmen – Javaid Iqbal (8), Mohammad Ramzan (2), and Sufyan Lehri (6) – and by the 38th over, with only Mohammad Nadeem still standing at the crease, Saudi Arabia were all out at a mediocre total of 116.
Ifthakar Ali (5-0-31-2) remained Saudi Arabia’s only bowler of note, but the chase did not take the UAE long to complete, and the team easily reached 117 within 15 overs, at the expense of just 3 wickets.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Azam-c76812 (who remained unbeaten
on 22*) and Shaiman Anwar (who top-scored for the team with 60), steadied the UAE’s innings to a great degree, and got the team total up to 114.
Their partnership came to an end with the dismissal of Anwar, who was caught and bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Ramzan-c77198. However, Mohammad Azam, led the team to victory, enabling them to reach 117 with 7 wickets and 215 balls still remaining.
The UAE will now be facing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 on October 7.
