United Bank Limited v Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited – President's Trophy, 2012/13 – Match Update – ZTBL win by an innings and 256 runs
A powerful all-round performance from Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) saw the team going on to claim a superb victory, by an innings and 256 runs, over the United Bank Limited (UBL) in their first-class match during the ongoing President’s Trophy, played
from November 26 to 29 at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad.
UBL won the toss and chose to field first, but were unable to do justice to their decision. Atif Jabbar (25.1-0-160-2) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shabbir-Ahmed-c89244 (28-7-79-2) remained the stand-out bowlers in the UBL attack, but their efforts paled in comparison to the performance
put forth by ZTBL. The team’s innings hinged around three massive centuries – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-Nazir-c64248 (185).
The triple centuries, combined with substantial performances from Zohaib Khan (55*), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Babar-Azam-c1122 (35), got the ZTBL up to a massive total of 643 at the expense of 6 wickets, before they decided to declare.
The team then launched a concentrated bowling attack which bowled the UBL team out twice without allowing them to come anywhere near the target. Their first turn at bat saw the UBL team severely troubled by ZTBL’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Khalil-c77063
(13-3-35-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Nadir-c69669 (13-2-51-2), and Junaid Zia (13-3-41-2).
Only four batsmen passed the single-digit mark, but even then, their contributions were not substantial enough to enable their team to come equal to the ZTBL, much less gain a lead. The efforts of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ali-Asad-c43582 (33*), and Fahim
Qureshi (27) eventually went in vain, and UBL succumbed all out, to a first innings total of 179.
Asked to follow on, the team continued to remain lacklustre, and their batsmen served as easy pickings for Zohaib Khan (16-7-51-3), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Junaid-Zia-c69672 (14-2-53-3), and Junaid Nadir (12-2-44-3). Osama Shah (58*) remained the highest scorer during UBL’s second innings,
and while a host of other batsmen were able to get starts, they failed to turn them into significant contributions.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kashif-Bhatti-c70379 (35) and Ali Asad (31) were the only other batsmen, aside from Osama Shah, who managed to put up a semblance of a fight, but ZTBL proved too much for their team to handle. UBL were reduced, all out, to 208, and ZTBL went on to claim a comprehensive
victory, by a margin of an innings and 256 runs.
