United Kingdom offers Aditya Mehta another entry on the Professional Snooker Circuit
The Indian Ace Aditya Mehta has been offered another entry on the Professional Snooker circuit in the United Kingdom.
The 25-year-old Mehta first received an entry to the extremely demanding professional league in 2009 when he produced an accomplishing performance by winning a silver medal at the 2008 Asian Snooker Championship.
However, he has now won an automatic ticket for the second time, as he reached the final of the 2011 Asian Snooker Championship before losing out to Thailand’s Passakorn Suwannawat by a frame score of 6-2. The event was held at Yeshwant Club last week.
“I am really thrilled about going back to England,” a delighted Mehta told Deccan Herald over phone. “I actually came to know of it a day before I was to play the final of the Asian championship. Year 2009 was my debut season and I went in there without
any major expectations.”
“The opening two rounds were in itself very difficult. On most occasions, you are up against a top-60 player in the second round. It’s really difficult and with tournaments happening almost every other week, it’s tough to regroup. It was just a fight for
survival. However, having played a lot of tournaments in 2009 and a few last year, I am really confident of a good show. I hope to make the cut more often and probably try retaining my place next season,” added Mehta.
Meanwhile Mehta, who produced high standards of game at Guangzhou Asian Games to win a silver and bronze medal, told the media about the expenses. He said the league is very expensive and he is looking for a sponsor so that he gets on the circuit.
Mehta who was the first Indian to play on the main tour since Yasin Merchant in 1990 will once again be staying in Sheffield. However, he will not be alone this time, as the Billiards and Snooker Federation of India is going to nominate another cueist on
the pro-circuit.
