  1. Either shut them down totally and install a new outfit or kick them out of the US and let them fend for themselves with no help from the US.  It's about the only way to correct the mistake of the joke of the UN.

  2. The whole point of the UN is to provide a forum for all nations, even the bad ones, to work their **** out somewhat diplomatically, a seperate UN for the Communist and democratic worlds during the Cold War probably would've killed us all.

  3. Get out of the UN as soon as possible and remove them from America.

  4. By the standards some of the people posting here would like for some countries to be thrown out of the UN -- for torture, for undemocratic elections -- the US should be thrown out.

The UN Security Council is the only body within all of the various organizations and entities that make up the "UN" that has any power. The only countries with veto power on that council are the USA, Russia, China, France and the UK. That needs to be reformed -- it's an unfair system that leads to more stalemates and political posturing than action.

The UN General Assembly is merely a discussion forum. They pass non-binding resolutions, like all of the other various UN committees. There is no other platform for global discussions. If the USA were better at diplomatic relations, there would not be so many "rogue nations" in leadership positions on committees -- often, they are voted into these positions as a way for small and poor countries to rebuff the USA.

The individual UN agencies -- UNESCO, UNIFEM, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, WFP, UNDP, etc. -- need more support for being innovative, and more accountability regarding staff management (all of their HR departments need reform).

I would like to see the UN Peace-Keeping system done away with, as it leads people to think the UN has a military -- it does not. The system also allows countries to "hide" behind the banner when their soldiers engage in unethical or criminal behavior.

  5. Remove them from the US

  6. The proposal I've liked best is to use our veto power to effectively grind the UN to a halt or disband it.

Then, we should form a League of Democratic Nations. Only countries with democratically elected leaders can join. These nations have proven to be the most peaceful, stable, respectful of human rights, and fair traders. Countries that hold fake elections (ie, they don't count) would not be allowed in either (like Russia, old Iraq, Myanmar, etc.)
