Hello im a high school grad and I wanted to serve in the coast gaurd. My dad was telling me the best way to go was to go into collage for 4 years then go as an officer. But I would love to hear from an experienced person about how to go about it all. Also was hoping to apply to serve on one of the big ships, that has always been my dream. What degrees would the uscg look highly upon so that I may avoid any entanglements aswell?

p.s-No anti-military comments allowed and will be immediatly reported:)

  2. As far as majors go, I recommend looking at the Coast Guard Academy's website and see what majors they have. Obviously those would be the majors the CG needs the most.

I would go ahead and get your degree then get commissioned as an officer. If the college thing doesn't work out then you can always go enlisted.

I have been hearing that the wait to get into the CG now is about a year long. It is acutally pretty competitve they don't waive much.

  3. Go to college after the Coast Guard you have a college degree and really good resume. I enlisted in the Marines and now in trying to go to college and wondering where the money is gonna come from. The GI Bill is good but I gotta pay rent etc. Just get college out of the way and become an officer. You dont need to go to a military academy. You can get a degree in anything it doesnt matter. Plus officers get treated WAY better.
