United States GP organisers asking for a new date in 2013 F1 calendar – Formula 1 news
The organisers of the United States Grand Prix have requested the FIA for an alternative date for the event in the 2013 F1 calendar.
“Circuit of the Americas has expressed our strong preference for an alternate race date in 2013,” Epstein told the Austin American-Statesman. “We understand that setting a global calendar can be very challenging, involves many factors and is out of our control.
We feel confident that Formula One has taken our concerns seriously and is working earnestly towards a collective solution. Ultimately, our 2013 race date may remain as it currently stands.”
The request was made when the dates of the race and a football match between University of Texas and Oklahoma State clashed with each other. The race is to take place on Sunday, November 17 while the football match is on Saturday, November 16. The organisers
are worried that holding these two big events together will create a stress on the city’s transport and will also cause problems for the accommodation of the fans. The football match alone is expected to attract almost 100,000 fans.
A US official of FIA, Nick Craw, said that they were looking into this particular matter but did not reveal any further details. On the other hand, the Big 12 conference for which the University of Texas competes has stated that it is unlikely for them to
change the date of the football match.
The football match is not the only event with which the US GP is clashing with but the NASCAR finale will also be clashed with just like this past season.
It is being reported that the change of date for the race will be difficult to come by since the calendar is already packed with back to back races. Besides that, FIA has already rescheduled the F1 calendar to open a spot for a European race, the identity
of which remains unrevealed.
The US GP had returned to F1 this past season after remaining absent for five years.  A purpose built Circuit of the Americas (COTA) was used for the race. Lewis Hamilton, now former McLaren driver, won the race.
