United States Open Polo Championship Player Ratings: Audi 13 – Pony Express 8
Audi continued its winning-spirit against a dwindling, yet recharged Pony Express side, in the first match of the United States Open Polo Championship. Pony Express were without their talismanic captain, Bob Daniels, but his substitute, Gonzalito Pieres,
rendered another scintillating show to augment his growing repute.
Maureen Brennan filled the empty place of Daniels, but failed to display a game-winning performance as his precedent can be. Audi ran out comfortable successors as they put thirteen goals to secure their first triumph in the 26-goal handicap tournament.
Audi
Gonzalito Pieres Jr: 8.5/10
Another cracker of a performance by Gonzalito in the opening game of the event proved exactly why he was considered best. He stole the show from the start with his lengthy rides and long penalty-conversions. He lit the lamp eight times in the six-chukka
action and had assisted his foursome to register their first win in the significant match.
Nico Pieres: 7.0/10
The brother of Gonzalito Pieres was also at his best and displayed an outstanding game on the field. The Argentinean pleaded a flawless performance in the crucial contest and scored four points in the triumph. His demonstration comprised of artistry stick
work at the horse-back. He not only led the scoring himself, but also managed opportunities for his front man.
Rodrigo Andrade: 6.0/10
Andrade looked to be developing a coordinated understanding of Pony Express particularly their strikes. He dominated the midfield and denied plenty of attacks from the opposite side. The passing of Andrade was crisp again, and although he missed the ball
possession on few occasions, his game kept Pony Express off the score-board. His rides were a constant threat to Pony Express attack besides scoring a goal in the Audi win.
Marc Ganzi: 5.5/10
His lack of mobility limited his skills to have a more impressive impact in the game. According to his views it was one of his worst games of the season. He was sloppy in the ball possession and at times left the goal-post open for the opponent strikes particularly
in the first half. There were only fleeting glances, even he improved his game in the second half.
Pony Express
Bautista Heguy : 7.5/10
His daring rides and desires to make a comeback into the game were unmatched on the field. He though carried out numerous attacks, but scored only five goals out of total eight. He was fast and furious at the front-line, however could not coordinate well
with Grossi and Chavanne.
Juan Garcia Grossi: 6.0/10
He looked a shadow of a player what he usually shows during the game. He scored twice in the six chukka action, but unfortunately failed to create many chances for his striking position. He seemed sloppy in the ball possession and hitting a long penalty-shot.
Santiago Chavanne: 5.0/10
Chavanne failed to deal with either offence or defence and conceded numerous goals in the period. He opened the scoring for Pony Express, but could not score anymore in the remaining time period.
Maureen Brennan: 5.5/10
Though he was inducted in the place of Bob Daniels, but could not perform like his precedent and remained scoreless in the period. He was sloppy at ball handling and could be called failed otherwise.
