United States attacker Edson Buddle praises Bob Bradley
United States international attacker Edson Buddle has spoken of his admiration for Bob Bradley.
The national team coach won plaudits after leading the US to the second round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, narrowly losing out on a place in the quarter-final to Ghana, who won the game 2-1 after extra time.
While 29-year-old Buddle was a part of the squad which took part in the tournament in South Africa, the Los Angeles Galaxy man was not selected for friendlies against Poland and Columbia, partly because he has just made a return from injury. But Buddle was
full of praise for the 52-year-old coach, and insisted that he would do his all to regain his place in the squad.
Fighting for his job
He told MLSsoccer.com that, “I’d love to be at that camp. But I’m not playing my greatest right now, so I’m not too disappointed. I’m coming off a hamstring injury and being in that environment would probably put some stress on my hamstring anyway.  The
new guys make it competitive. It’s good. It’s more at stake. Hopefully that can elevate everyone’s game, especially at my position. When things are competitive, it helps my game in the long run. When you have to fight for your job, you end up doing great things
with your potential.”
Despite rumours linking Bradley with a move to an English Premier League club, he has opted to renew his contract with the US. He will be at the helm until after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Buddle added that, “I think national team coach Bob Bradley getting picked up for another cycle is great. He’s really a soccer nut and he puts a lot of thought into his decisions. I haven’t heard much talk yet from other players about Brazil in 2014, but
I know that Bob is already working hard to prepare for that. It’s already on his mind.”
