United States captures Boys 4*100m Medley Relay gold: Day six – 2011 FINA World Junior Championships
United States captured the gold medal of Boys 4*100m Medley Relay on the closing day of the 3rd World Junior Swimming Championships, organised by the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA), in Lima, Peru.
The American relay team won the title of the event in a championship record time of 3 minutes and 39.65 seconds. Their time was 2.04 seconds under the previous championship record of 3 minutes and 41.69 seconds, made by the squad of Great Britain in 2008.
In addition, their gold winning effort was 12.37 seconds slower than the world record of 3 minutes and 27.28 seconds, set by the American team at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
The champion team was trailed by the Japanese squad, which occupied the silver medal of the event, by submitting a second fastest time of 3 minutes and 39.92 seconds. The podium was completed with the presence of Italy's swimming team, who earned third position
of the event by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 42.44 seconds for the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, the relay team of Greece emerged as the fourth position holders of the discipline, as they stayed 0.51 seconds behind Italy and posted a time of 3 minutes and 42.95 seconds. Next was the German relay squad, which remained only 3.35 seconds behind
Greece and touched the finishing wall in the respective meet to clock a fifth finest time of 3 minutes and 46.30 seconds.
The German squad was trailed by Russia, who stayed only 0.10 seconds behind their preceding finisher and posted a sixth fastest time of 3 minutes and 46.40 seconds. The seventh fastest spot was claimed by China, who remained 2.25 seconds behind Russia and
produced a time of 3 minutes and 48.65 seconds for seventh position. Finally, the Brazilian team was disqualified from the race due to a false start.
In addition, the session ended with the wonderful swims of all participating teams, while the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for their immaculate swims after the completion of the final session.
