United States captures Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay crown - FINA World Junior Championships
United States put up a great performance on day five of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships in Lima, Peru, on Saturday, August 20. The session of the meet conducted Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay and Men’s 50m butterfly finals.
In the Women’s 4x100m freestyle relay meet, United States’ team of Kristen Vredeveld, Simone Manuel, Rachel Acker and Lia Neal snared the gold medal on the podium by submitting a winning time of 3 minutes and 42.85 seconds. Their swim beat USA’s previous
best meet record of 3 minutes and 43.54 seconds, set back in 2008.
In the corresponding meet, Canada took home the silver medal on the podium by posting a victorious time of 3 minutes and 43.24 seconds. Canada’s squad was consisted of Brittany MacLean, Victoria Chan, Lauren Earp and Chantal Van Landeghem. Last, but not
the least, the bronze title was taken over by Great Britain with an impressive time of 3 minutes and 45.99 seconds. The British squad included Amelia Maughan, Emma Saunders, Emily Jones and Jessica Lloyd.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 50m butterfly crown was clinched by United States’ Maclin Davis with a triumphant time of 24.26 seconds. After the meet, Davis was really pleased and satisfied with his splash. Croatia’s Mihael Vukic grabbed silver on the podium by posting
a winning time of 24.30 seconds, while Martino Lucatello of Italy snared the bronze medal by submitting an impressive time of 24.54 seconds. In the meantime, Yevgen Koptyelov of Ukraine and Erich Peske of United States of America settled in tie for fourth
place with a matching time of 24.88 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Matthias Bellance of France was placed sixth with an impressive mark of 24.94 seconds and Yunpeng Liu of China earned seventh place honours with a time of 25.08 seconds. Last, but not the least, Reynard Wessels of South Africa
grabbed eighth spot with a time of 25.44 seconds.
The arena applauded for the brilliant swims of all swimmers, while the winners were awarded medals and accolades after the session’s completion.
