United States says not worried about London 2012 Olympics security
The United States has recently given a statement that denies any talk of a lethargic effort by the British authorities concerning the security measures being taken for the London 2012 Olympic Games. A newspaper had reported that the United States did not
feel satisfied with the security efforts that were being made for the grand international sporting event.
The report was released by the Guardian newspaper in which it made claims that the government of United States plans to send about 1000 of its agents to England. The newspaper said that this group would also consist of about 500 FBI agents and they will
be sent for the purpose of providing security and protection to its athletes and their staff.
In response to such claims made by the newspaper, the embassy of United States dispatched a letter to the editor of the newspaper that had published the story about the stance of the American government on British Olympics security. Some of the contents
of the letter are as such: "The United States embassy has the utmost confidence in the British government's arrangements to ensure safety and security for the Olympic Games. The United States has established an excellent collaborative relationship with the
Metropolitan police."
Paul Deighton, who is the chief executive of the London Olympic organising committee (LOCOG), shared the letter by the American embassy with the parliamentary committee of the Olympics. This committee is responsible for looking after all the preparations
that are required for the London 2012 Games.
Deighton also confirmed the stance of the United States and said that the country has "a big team, they have got serious security concerns, so they'll want to work with us to make sure it's effective. As I say, they have said they are very happy with what
we are doing."
Next year will be the third time that the city of London will have the honour of hosting the event in its history. The first time that the Olympic Games took place in London was in 1908 while the second time it was in 1948. London hopes to make the 2012
Olympics the best yet.
