United States sweeps Argentina in FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball news
The United States women’s national volleyball team had a match with the Argentineans on November 11 in Okayama, Japan where the FIVB World Cup is taking place. The Momotaro Arena saw the Americans playing their sixth match of the tournament, which they won
3-0.
Not only did the Americans manage to win the match by securing three back to back sets, they did so by completely smothering their opponents. The first set of the match was dominated by the U.S. with the Argentineans trailing along all the way. The South
Americans put in more of an effort in the second set but the U.S. proved to be far better and won the frame with a comfortable margin. The third set of the game was the most competitive but the performance of the Argentineans was no match for the high level
of skill of the Americans who were able to seal the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-12, 25-15 and 25-19.
The coach of the American team, Hugh McCutcheon, made the following comments at the press conference that was conducted after the match had reached its close: “We’re happy to win tonight. Obviously, every win in this tournament is important. We know Argentina
and I think our group was able to come out and control a lot of the elements of the game from the beginning and we made it difficult for them.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Argentinean team, Horacio Bastit, shared his feelings in the following manner: “I want to congratulate my colleagues for the win today. We knew before the match there was a big difference between the two teams, but we
set our goals about how many points we should get. For moments in the game we did that, but in general it was not a good game for us.”
The first set of the match reached an early tie at 4-4 but the U.S was able to take their lead to 13-6, an advantage that they extended till 20-8 and sailed smoothly towards a set win later at 25-12. The second set saw the Americans get a lead of 8-4 and
stuck with the advantage till the end at 25-15. The third set of the match was the same as the previous too and ended in an American win at 25-19.
The player that was able to register the most points in the entire match was the American Logan Tom was tallied a total of 14 points. On the other hand, the most active player on the Argentinean side was Leticia Boscacci who tallied eight points in all.
