United States wins Men’s 400m freestyle relay crown: FINA World Junior Championships – Day one
Day one of the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships saw the thrilling performance of USA’s squad in Lima, Peru, on Tuesday, August 16. The session of the championships conducted Men’s 4x100m and Women’s 4x200m freestyle relay finals.
At the beginning, United States’ squad of Matt Ellis, Allen Browning, Kyle Darmody and Seth Stubblefield hit the wall in 3 minutes and 21.10 seconds to win the gold medal. On the other hand, Canada’s quartet of Luke Peddie, Alec Page, Omar Arafa and Chad
Bobrosky earned silver medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 3 minutes and 21.68 seconds.
Meanwhile, Russia’s team of Nikita Kitaev, Dmitri Kuleshov, Aleksandr Klyukin and Dmirty Ermakov snared bronze medal in the platform by submitting an impressive time of 3 minutes and 22.73 seconds.
In the corresponding meet, Brazil wound up fourth in a time of 3 minutes and 23.52 seconds. Italy was placed fifth with a time of 3 minutes and 23.75 seconds, while Poland wound up sixth in a time of 3 minutes and 24.19 seconds. Germany settled seventh with
a mark of 3 minutes and 26.34 seconds, whereas, Australia finished eighth in a time of 3 minutes and 29.95 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Women’s 4x200m freestyle relay title was taken over by United States with a winning time of 8 minutes and 00.33 seconds. The US squad was consisted of Julia Anderson, Lia Neal, Gillian Ryan and Chelsea Chenault. Canada’s squad of Lauren Earp,
Victoria Chan, Tabitha Baumann and Brittany MacLean captured the silver medal on the podium by posting an impressive time of 8 minutes and 04.92 seconds, while Australia’s quartet of Bonnie Macdonald, Brianna Throssell, Taylor McKeown and Mikkayla Sheridan
grabbed the bronze medal with a winning time of 8 minutes and 06.68 seconds.
In the corresponding splash, Spain’s team of Cortes Gomez, Sorribedith Ignacio, Urzainqurina Garcia and Claudia Dasca was placed fourth with a mark of 8 minutes and 08.40 seconds and Russia’s Elena Serko, Alena Kudryashova, Veria Kolotushkina and Ksenia
Yuskova wound up fifth with a time of 8 minutes and 09.39 seconds.
China earned sixth place honours with a time of 8 minutes and 09.92 seconds, while Great Britain settled seventh spot with a mark of 8 minutes and 16.14 seconds. Slovenia wound up eighth in the respective meet with a time of 8 minutes and 18.90 seconds.
Finally, the winners were awarded accolades after the session’s completion.
