United States wins Women’s 4x200m freestyle preliminary heat: Day five – FINA World Championships
American swimmers dominated proceedings and put up a stunning show in the Women’s 4x200m Freestyle preliminary meet on day five of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Wednesday, July 27.
In the subsequent heat, the American squad which included Melissa Franklin, Kathryn Hoff, Jasmine Tosky and Dagny Knutson gave their best try and won the race with an impressive time of 7 minutes and 50.46 seconds. The quartet of Canada Julia Wilkinson,
Brittany Maclean, Samantha Cheverton and Barbara Jardin hit the finishing wall in 7 minutes and 52.05 seconds, to enter into the next round as the second best qualifiers.
Meanwhile, Hungary’s group of four, Agnes Mutina, Evelyn Verraszto Katinka Hosszu and Zsuzsanna Jakabos rounded out the top three on the podium with a sterling time of 7 minutes and 52.12 seconds.
China’s Qian Chen, Qianwei Zhu, Jing Liu and Jiaying Pang finished fourth in a time of 7 minutes and 53.21 seconds. In the meantime, the quartet of Great Britain Joanne Jackson, Rebecca Turner, Hannah Miley and Caitlin Mcclatchey earned fifth place honours
with a time of 7 minutes and 55.65 seconds.
Australia wound up sixth in a time of 7 minutes and 55.68 seconds, while France earned the seventh spot in the respective meet with a time of 7 minutes and 55.89 seconds. New Zealand settled eighth in a time of 7 minutes and 57.15 seconds.
Additionally, Femke Heemskerk of Netherlands won the Women’s 100m freestyle prelims with a victorious time of 53.75 seconds, while USA’s Scott Clary took home the Men’s 200m back-stroke prelims meet.
Finally, Rebecca Soni of United States topped the Women’s 200m breast-stroke prelims with a triumphant time of 2 minutes and 23.30 seconds. After the heat, Soni stated, “My goal today was not to let any pressure get in my way. I really did nothing but focus
on my race today.”
In another meet, Lithuania’s Giedrius Titenis grabbed the Men’s 200m breast-stroke prelims after she ended her swim in a winning time of 2 minutes and 10.33 seconds.
