Manchester United cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win against Swansea City on Sunday at Old Trafford, to take the Premier League title race to the very last day, as the win helped them get level on points with Manchester City with just one more game
to play.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-Scholes-c29394 scored the opener for the home team in the 28th minute, before Ashley Young doubled his side’s advantage close to the halftime break. The win for United ensured that their neighbours will have to fight it out to the very last day,
to earn their maiden Premier League accolade.
However, in the likely event that both the Manchester clubs win their respective games on Sunday, the Eastlands side will run away with the league as they enjoy a better goal difference than the Red Devils. United will square off against Sunderland at the
Stadium of Lights, while City will play host to QPR in their last game.
Despite City’s win against Newcastle, the United manager Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson remained upbeat about his team’s chances of winning the title. He said in the post match interview, “I've seen stranger things happen in this game of football. But I think the important
thing is for us to go there [Sunderland away] in the right spirit, with the attitude to win the match, you never know, we'll just hope.”
Disappointment was clearly etched on the faces of the United players and manager following City’s win against Newcastle and they seemed dispirited in the opening stages of the game.
Nathan Dyer took an early shot from well outside the area in a bid to further spoil the hosts mood, but his attempt went wide of the mark.
However, the Red Devils soon rediscovered their composure and started to dominate the proceedings. A spell of attacking football from them saw http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Smalling all make an attempt to unsettle the visitors’ goalkeeper, Michel
Vorm.
And with United continuously flirting outside the Swans penalty box, it was only a matter of time before Scholes put the home team in front close to the half-hour mark.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 took a shot from inside the box and the ball was directed into the bottom right corner of the goal by the English International with a lazy flick of his right foot.
Thirteen minutes later, Young extended his side’s lead as he blasted a powerful low shot into the right corner from inside the box, after Rooney’s shot was blocked by Ashley Williams.
Hernandez came close of ending his goal drought in the second half, but directed a header just over the goal post.
Nathan Dyer then blasted a shot well off target in the 63rd minute from close range after he was picked up by Gylfi Sigurdsson inside the box, while the Icelandic International saw his effort from the edge of the box get saved by De Gea.
Despite late sparring from the visitors and a few good opportunities created by United late in the game, both the sides failed to score any more goals and the game ended in a 2-0 win for the home team.
