EPL News: Manchester United Midfielder Darren Fletcher declares the Red Devils have to learn from mistakes against Everton
Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has stated that his side should learn lessons from their disappointing result at Goodison Park. Manchester United were in firm control of the match, especially in the second half, as the visitors were in a 3-1 lead till the 91st minute. Of what was a stroke of luck, Everton found the equalizing goal within a minute into the injury time, snatching two points away from United’s victory deserving fixture.
This is the second time this season that the Red Devils have been frustrated in the dying moments of a contest. In the away game previous to this one, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men threw away the lead twice in the match, with the latter one neutralized in the last five minutes. At Fulham, however, it was just one goal which separated the two sides, while at Goodison Park, two goals were struck in a matter of seconds. It has cost United 4 points from the first four fixtures, as they sit currently on the number 3rd spot.
While talking to media, United’s midfielder Darren Fletcher claimed that it’s very disappointing. To be up at with a 3-1 margin at 90 minutes and to go down like that from such a good position is something that just can’t be acceptable at Manchester United.
Fletcher insisted that one can only learn from such situations and that would be the biggest thing. The player argued that the team has not learnt from their mistakes at Fulham and would need to see out the games which they apparently have won. This is something that has demoralised many players in the club and needs to be figured out immediately.
Manchester United did fairly well in coming back from a 1-0 deficit, thanks to a 42nd minute strike from Darren Fletcher.
“It was important we scored straight away and went into half-time at 1-1," he stressed. "At that point we would have been the happier team. Then we came out in the second half, played some good football and got ourselves into a good position. We started the second half the way we should do – we passed the ball around and took our chances. We were in control of the game.”
Things began to shake in the 91st minute when Tim Cahill’s 91stminute goal gave the home side a ray of hope. There were only 90 seconds remaining on the clock and it seemed difficult to break through the United defence yet again.
Fletcher insisted that the second goal was the turning point of the contest as the home crowd were on their feet. It’s dangerous to give confidence to team likes Everton and that led to the side putting everyone up front. That is something Everton didn’t manage to do when they were 3-1.
The 26 year old player told that earlier the Toffees were unable to control the tempo of the game and they were also unable to place all their players up front to score. That is what exactly happened after the substitution in the last minute and therefore that gave the Blues a chance to draw the lost match.
Fletcher claimed that teams like Everton like fighting till the very last moment and that paid off in the end. United would now want to defend as a team next time or would be punished like this yet again. The midfielder concluded the statement stating that the biggest thing would be to learn from this and not let it happen again.
Manchester United would be playing their first Champions League match on Tuesday, as United host Glasgow Rangers at Old Trafford. Ferguson will surely have planned so that a blunder like this doesn’t happen again.
