  1. I am from Saint Etienne and have studied chemistry and Physics there for two years. I know the university well. The level is rather high but the university is not very attractive (far from downtown, uggly neighbourhood). Good place to study, maybe not the best place to live and to enjoy France. If you need any information about life or studies there, do not hesitate to ask ;-)

    pafpaf

saint etienne isn't sader thant any other city of the same size. ;-)

  2. Rennes I is a good university, and I love that city. A lot of students, you can always find something to do.

But the university in itself is not good-looking...

  3. I would advice you to go to the INSA in Lyon.

that's a good school, and Lyon is really a cool place

  4. I m french and i studied in Rennes 1. This is a famous university in France and has a good level.

Rennes is 3 hours from Paris, next to the Mont Saint Michel and Rennes is also a beautiful city with a lot of people

  5. Well it depends on what kind of "life" you want to leave there... I know the places but not the universities, excepted one.

Lyon is a nice and rather big city. The old town is beautiful, and there are theaters, operas, the Stade de Gerland welcome the "big" musical artists... The food is excellent, not so expensive...

Marseille, ahhh Marseille! Great landscapes, good food, good fish, the sea... The winter is not so cold there. But people are not so easy even with non-Marseillais French people, imagine for a foreigner...

Nantes and Rennes : Brittany. You'll have fun there! People are really great there, they love the fiesta, and the famous "crèpes" comes from there... Close to sea, also.

Les Antilles... So beautiful! The sea, the sun, the beach.  The islands are close to Jamaique, so it doesn't really correspond to the France that you might imagine... But people are great there.

I don't know Le Mans (except for the car racings and teh "Rillettes du Mans", a food specialty). Sorry...

I studied at the Université de Savoie, in Chambéry. The campus is rather little, in the mountains. Nice landscapes, nice areas for the students, a lot of foreign students, an old town, a lake, really great souvenirs for me. And it has a good reputation. A nice city to live, cold winters (but great ski slopes!).

For  Saint Etienne, I don't know, but I wouldn't go there. Too sad. Grenoble is better.

Good luck for your studies in France!
