Question:

Universities in (west-)Romania? What about Timisoara?

I want to study in Romania for a while, and I really prefer the west of Romania (not too far from Timisoara) because I know some people there. Now I'm looking for a good university. Does anybody know if the university of Timisoara is a good university? And do they teach in English? I'm learning Romanian, but I'm not good enough at it to follow university education.

And if Timisoara is not an option, can somebody give me alternatives? Cluj maybe? Besides Cluj and Timisoara, are there more universities in that area of Romania? Does anybody know the names of universities/cities or some websites about this?

I would really appreciate your help. Thanks in advance.

  1. ''o iubesti pe romania ?'' i recomand u the east of romania city Iasi , the university from here is  number 1 in a top of universities from romania and iasi is a great city :)

  2. Western Romania is the best and the most pitoresque part with rich architecture and multicultural diversity.  Here you wont find the southern balcanic style but the central-european one. And yes, Universitatea de Vest Timisoara (West University) is one of the best in the country with a long tradition. There are many foreign students there ... Although Im not sure if they teach in English but I know for sure that they have an introductory class in Romanian for the foreign students. You can check it here even if the English part of the website doesnt work http://www.uvt.ro/  Another well known Romanian university is that from Cluj-Napoca http://www.ubbcluj.ro/en/index.html Both cities are cosmopolite, with a mixture of modern and baroque architecture, people are friendly and open.

Timisoara - 600 000 inhabitants (minorities: germans, hungarians, serbs, gypsy)

    Cluj - 550 000 (hungarians, gypsy)

  3. Babes-Bolyai in Cluj or Universitatea Brasov (nice city) http://www.unibv.ro

  4. Hi, I am from Romania but not from Timisoara, from Brasov actually.

I can tell you however that University of Timisoara or the one in Cluj are some of the best universities in Romania. Actually, Cluj and Timisoara are called student cities because students represent a large percent of city population (15 % or so).

I am not sure, but I think there are english clases on some faculties.

Allso Brasov is realy a very nice city, and has a large university.
