I’m going to be starting university at the end of September to study product design. However I feel as if I am not ready for it at all, I am also worrying about a number of other things at uni such as:

Money issues, I will need a part time job otherwise I will starve!

Will I be able to stand the pressure and stress (ive read that depression is common, and even suicides)

Away from home, and the fact I cant cook!!

And so on…..

So I ask how do you know if your ready for university?, has any else felt really really nervous before going to uni?

  1. I feel the same way, but I know if I want an even decent job, I should go to university. Also, it will prepare you for a job that you will really want. Sometimes, you have to make yourself ready for things and dive right in. I hope things will work out for the both of us.

  2. Those are all very valid concerns.  Dealing with the hardships and stress is part of what makes you so valuable when you enter the workforce.  You have proven that you won't crack under the first little bit of strain.  I went and graduated and wouldn't have traded it for anything.  Go for it and you'll do fine.  Just knowing that there will be hard times means that you are more prepared than many might be.

  3. Congratulations on starting your university career.  Money issue - check with the school and find out if you can work part time on campus.  Also ask about financial aid.  Pressure issue - surround yourself with really good people as friends.  Keep your family in the loop and talk to them when you are feeling overwhelmed.  There are also organizations on campus that can be helpful.  Can't cook - eat at the dorm.  Many freshmen gain 15 pounds their first semester because the food is good!  Good luck and hang in there!
