  1. Hi,

I've just been accepted for Computer Science and Management at KCL so I can tell you what me and my friends did.

Firstly you need to write down why you want to study IT, be honest. Have that in your Introduction. Then go into more detail about things like work experience, or your previous experience in IT and importantly, what you LEARNT from it. After this you should have a few sentences about your hobbies and extra-curricular activities, so that they know that you are a fun and well-rounded individual. Finally a good conclusion will summarise and build on all the points that have already been discussed, so that the admissions tutors are really pushed to give you a place!

A good idea is to look at the UCAS website, and also the websites for the Universities and departments that you are thinking of applying to, they usually have good information, and you can also find out the kind of things they are looking for.

The best thing I can recommend to you is that once you have written your first draft, sign up to www.personalstatementchecker.com. It's really good and I've been recommending it to everyone. I used the editor option and it really made my personal statement amazing, I probably wouldn't have gotten into KCL without it!

    Hope this helps

    T K

  2. Ok, tell them why you want to study the course, what sparked your interest in the subject and what you plan to do with your degree.

It would also be a good idea to say what you particular IT interests are ie programming, networking etc.

Mention intertests outside of the subject. Sports, literature, music, for example, and then link them to you course. So, if you have played sports you could say that this has taught you how to work in a team or if you read books you could say this has impoved your ability to analyse and interpret things.

It's important to sound passionate. There are going to be a lot of other applicants with the same qualifications as you, so your personal statement is your chance to stand out from them. Let then know how much you want to study the subject.

Nothing can guarantee you getting a place but a good personal statement will make it difficult for them to turn you down.

I wish I could remember more but it's been a few years since I did mine.

    GOOD LUCK!.
