Do you thing Universtiy Police Officers have or get the same respect as a Officer that works for a City?

  1. Yes, especially when students see them arresting someone.


  2. No they don't get the same respect...I think they are a joke.

Well, unfortunately, not really.  I used to work at the university police department as a student worker when I was in college.  They were generally thought of as "Barney Fife" types.  One of the professors I knew called them the Gestapo.  However, to me they were all good guys that were trying to do a good job.  

  4. It all depends on the individual agency. I think that after Virginia Tech, people are taking university PDs more seriously. Doesn't really matter though, you don't get into law enforcement for respect.

    Edit: From what I've found, in the last 40 years, 27 university and college police officers have been killed in the line of duty. Not quite Barney Fife.
