University of Central Florida Knights begin spring training – Volleyball news
Following the extensive individual training for the 2012 regular season, the University of Central Florida (UCF) women’s volleyball team kicked off its non-traditional spring training on Saturday, March 17.
The Knights of UCF opened the spring session by playing two matches against two different teams. In the first match, they went against Tars of Rollins College and met Florida Wave in the next encounter. The UCF campus provided the backdrop for both fixtures.
The admission was free and fans were encouraged to come and watch the training games.
Speaking of the training phase, the Head Coach of UCF Knights Todd Degenais said, “The main focus for our spring competition is to help us develop the depth that we need to make a run at a Conference USA Championship and start laying the foundation for us
to compete at a high level in the BIG EAST in 2013. Most of our depth players did not get as much playing time as what we would have hoped for, so this will be their opportunity to shine against high-level competition.”
The Knights worked out a stellar performance in the previous season and seem determined to carry the momentum. They finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 20-11. They appeared in 20 conference matches and clinched success in 12, while losing
only 8.
Likewise, they pulled off success in six home appearances and claimed six away matches. In the next run, Degenais aims to enter the 2012 season with a fully trained and experienced line-up.
The Saturday matches were just a start to the jam-packed training schedule for Knights. The UCF will be hosting another spring fling on coming Saturday, which will involve more number of teams. The Knights will be joined by Florida State, Miami, Team Florida,
and eight other schools in the competition. The next week tournament will create a fair chance of improve for all the participants.
The spring trained will be continued until the end of April. UCF squad will take on Florida again on April 7. The match will take place at Gainesville.
Furthermore, the Knights will close spring session after at the Siesta Beach Championship in Siesta, Florida. Next up, the team will hold its summer camp.
