I got 2170 on the SAT, 800 critical reading, 700 maths, 670 writing. I'm captain of debating, orchestra, choir, band, public speaking, and i'm doing the IB. What do they look for and what should i do to try and maximise my chances for admission?

  1. Adding to what both Chloe9 and Virginia said, remember the only thing that can set you apart from someone with the exact same grades/accomplishments, no matter how high your grades are, is your essay. So like chloe9 said, you need to tackle them and blow the admissions people away with your essay. Make it original, and something that only your imagination can write.

  2. Captain of debating is very typical of a UChicago student; nevertheless, you should be proud. Anyway, 2170 is a decent score, but I hear that unless your African American or Hispanic or partially Native American, a 2250 was be needed to suffice. Well, that's the only way to feel comfortable about being admitted while your waiting. However, there are not guarantees for colleges, and your score is great. I would log onto the UChicago website. In fact, I'm applying as well and I logged onto the site (attempting to start on my applications), and they tell you exactly what they look for and how they evaulate you.

  3. UChicago is known for its unique essays. as soon as the topics come out, be sure to tackle them, and make them good.
