Hi there...thanks in advance for all your answers. Basically I live in Kent and am looking forward to take upon an English degree after completing an access course. I currently face a dilemma as to which university I should go to as they all accept access courses. I have listed the unis in order according to Times and Guardian uni guide. All have good departments in English.

1. University of Manchester (not metropolitan) - . moving uni with great academic research. Vibrant city but am worried as it is far away Kent so 5000+3000 pounds every year on loans which is 8000, will have to stay in manchester for all 3 years.

2. University of Kent - Well known, good research and academically good, teaching is popular too, close to home, so after 1st year in halls, I can stay at home for the later years saving money.

3. Goldsmith, University of London - In london so not too far away from home, however not as known as the other two but not a very good area to live in, near New Cross. but again close to home, so after 1st year in halls, I can stay at home for the later years saving money.

In your opinion, out of all three overall which university seems to stand out and will attract employers if i got a 2.1 in all universities. Sorry for being so long...but thanks.

  1. As a hobbist in this area,I would suggest you take a look here, there are helpful tips there.http://home-mortgage.online-tips4u.info/...

  2. Hello

Try http://www.unistats.com:80/ for comparative information between these three universities.  You’ll need to register but will then be able to submit the course and university details to compare them.

Have you also checked the websites for information, including any dates for open days?  If possible, it’s well worth visiting to have the opportunity to meet staff and students and check out the facilities at each.  If this is not possible, it would be worth contacting individual departments such as Careers for information on graduate employment prospects from each course or the Students Union for information on facilities and student life here in general.  Hopefully some current or previous students will also provide you with feedback.

Perhaps you haven’t considered supported open learning at The Open University but English is one of the subjects available and entry is by guidance, not selection: see http://www.open.ac.uk/ for general information on courses and qualifications, registration, study support or careers information and advice.   Incidentally, you can apply to The Open University alongside UCAS, effectively increasing your options.

This link at http://www3.open.ac.uk/study/undergradua...  will take you to detailed information on undergraduate study in Arts and Humanities.

As you express concerns about costs, it is also worth finding out if any scholarships are available for your subject area of study at Manchester, Kent or Goldsmiths.  In addition, you could check out the funding support available through the OU (paid as a grant, not as a student loan) at http://www3.open.ac.uk/studyatou/apply/f... - use the ready reckoner available to check out eligibility.

I wish you well with your course choice and future study.

  3. I would go with 2 or 3 but you need to brush up line one contained your first error and i got a D in English GCSE!!!

  4. MANCHESTERRRR

  5. what do you mean Goldsmiths isn't well known??! it's supposed to be a fab university!!! I say definitely go for goldsmiths- not just because its a good uni but also- you'll be in london which means amazing resources for your research also- you'll be living in london- one of the most exciting cities in the world.

Uni of Kent would be too close to home.

Uni of Manc. would mean living in Manchester and for some reason all people who live in / are from manchester think they are the bees knees

    Goldsmiths gets my vote

  6. Manchester University (not metro) is one the oldest and best in the UK. Academically brilliant, social life outstanding.

I went there, and I highly recommend it. Once there, you will forget all about Kent. You will love it.

  7. manchester!
