University of Missouri releases itinerary for upcoming season - Volleyball news
The University of Missouri volleyball team has just announced its schedule for the 2011 season, revealing that the Tigers will be playing a total of 32 matches this year.
The Tigers have had a season to be proud of in 2010 as they were able to bag impressive victories and showed consistency of performance throughout the year. The Tigers were also able to make their mark in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)
tournament and they have a plan to build on that by including as many NCAA opponents as they can.
The Tigers have chalked out a schedule that will gradually raise the difficulty level of the opponents that they will be facing. The first few matches are all at home for the Tigers. The squad will take part in five non-conference tournaments before they
move on to the Big 12 league matches that will begin in September.
The Hearnes Center will be host to four teams, one of which is North Dakota State, the defending Summit League Champions. The other three teams other than the hosts are Binghamton, Idaho State and Tulane.
After the Tigers start their season on the 26th of August with the home tournament, they will be moving on to Murfreesboro on September 1. This match will again give the Tigers a chance to test their skills as they will be taking on the defending
champions of the Sun Belt tournament, Middle Tennessee State. Middle Tennessee State was also able to make it to the NCAA last year and therefore is a competitive team to play against.
After playing three more non-conference tournaments, the Big 12 league play will start from the 9th September and see the Tigers come to Denver. The Denver Pioneer Classic will pit the University of Missouri squad against Drake, UT-San Antonio
and UC Davis.
After taking on numerous teams throughout October and November, the Tigers will play the final match of their regular season against Texas. Hopefully, the schedule works in the teams favour and they can build on their success from last year.
