University of South California men’s volleyball team defeats Stanford by 3-1 on Friday
The University of South California men’s volleyball team did not fail to out do themselves as they took on the Stanford University on Friday.
The match between the two teams was one that thrilled the spectators with the skilful performances both the teams among the top ranks in the country were able to put up. The match between Stanford and USC went on for four long and competitive sets and fully
entertained an audience of 1,645 present at the venue.
As the Trojans were celebrating their well earned win over their opponents at the Maples Pavilion, the score board showed final set scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22.
The victory that the Trojans were able to muster was achieved on the basis of their superior attacking tactics and the way they executed them. The impressive attacking skills of the Trojans did not pale the defence tactics that they had. The defence of USC
did make it easy for the Stanford team to score points easily and kept the pressure on all through the match.
The players who played an integral part in keeping Stanford in the game were Brad Lawson, Steven Irvin and Spencer McLachlin. Both Lawson and Irvin kept the scoreboard ticking by registering a high amount of kills.
Lawson was able to post a total of 17 kills while Irvin added 15 kills of his own. Other than that, McLachlin supported his team members by posting 14 kills. Not only that, McLachlin also made himself useful by making 12 digs.
Overall, the Stanford team was able to do better than the Trojans by registering a higher number of overall hitting percentage in the game. The Trojans were able to post a hitting percentage of .290. In comparison, Stanford was able to outhit the Trojans
and register a hitting percentage of .305.
As soon as the first set of the match began, it saw both the teams move in for the kill. Neither the Trojans nor Stanford was willing to back off from gaining dominance at the court. However, as the set progressed, the Trojans were seen to move ahead of
Stanford. In the end, the Trojans were able to seal the deal by securing the first set of the game at 25-22.
After having lost the first set of the game, Stanford stepped up their efforts and gave the Trojans a good amount of competition. As Stanford put up a fight, they were able to tame the Trojans and win the second set of the game at 25-21.
Unfortunately for Stanford, wining the second set of the game was the only moment of happiness that they were able to experience in the entire match. The next two sets were won by the Trojans at 25-22 each.
By winning the match against Stanford, the Trojans were able to further strengthen their confidence and inspire their fans once again.
