University of Southern California men’s volleyball team beats University of California, Los Angeles
The University of Southern California men’s volleyball team managed to remind their fans and the spectators why they are ranked as the number one volleyball team in the nation on Saturday.
The match that they played was a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Tournament quarter final and was played in their home ground at the Galen Center.
The team that USC was able to defeat this time around was the University of California, Los Angeles. Despite the fact that they lost the match, UCLA did not make it easy for USC to secure a win and kept the score tight. The competition between the two teams
was decided after four sets had finished. By the time that the Trojans had completed their job and a disappointed UCLA side was trudging out of the courts, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores, 23-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21.
With their recent win, USC has been able to bring the tally of their overall season wins to a figure of 22. They have been able to achieve this number after suffering an impressively low number of losses. The only defeats that the Trojans have undergone
in this season so far have been twice.
As opposed to the overall season record of the Trojans, that of UCLA falls pale. They have been able to secure a total of 16 victories for themselves in the regular season. These victories have been mustered after registering a total of 15 losses.
The first set of the match started off with the Trojans taking the lead for themselves at 10-5. However, after gaining control, USC was not able to keep it with themselves as UCLA charged ahead with a burst of speed. UCLA was able to close in and move ahead
of the Trojans, taking the lead for their own at 14-13.
The Trojans did not let the Bruins extend their advantage and were once more ahead of the game at 21-18. However, the Bruins overtook the Trojans once again and at 24-22. After this point, UCLA sealed the deal by winning the first set of the match at 25-23.
Losing the first set improved whatever was lacking in the Trojans and they were able to come out much stronger in the second one. They were able to take the lead early on at 6-5 and keep it with themselves until the end of the match. The Bruins could not
significantly challenge the Trojans in the second set. As a result, USC secured a win at 25-18.
The third set of the game went much the same way as the second and the Trojans were able to bag it at 25-18 as well. The fourth set saw the Bruins step up their game a notch after losing two sets in a row but the effort came in too late. The Trojans were
going strong and did not feel it a hard job to register a win at 25-21.
The win that the Trojans have been able to score is the 16th consecutive time that they have won in their home ground.
