University of Southern California men’s volleyball team sweeps University of California on Thursday
The University of Southern California men’s volleyball team does not fail to amaze the spectators and fans with a thrilling performance every time they come on to the court.
This time around, they were competing the University of California, Los Angeles in a match that took place on Thursday. Showing the same consistency and determination that has come to be associated with the number one volleyball team of the nation, USC handed
out a defeat to UCLA by winning three back-to-back sets.
By the time that the Trojans had finished their job at the Galen Centre and the Bruins were heading back to the locker room shaking their heads in disappointment, the scoreboard was singing praises of USC by displaying the following final set scores: 25-12,
25-22, 25-21.
With their recent win, the Trojans now have a total number of 20 season wins. These victories have been accomplished at an impressively low number of losses that amount to be only two. The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record of the Trojans is equally
commendable. The number of times that USC has been able to earn themselves victories tally to be 19. As opposed to this, the Trojans have had two defeats in the MPSF this season.
In contrast to this, both the overall season record and the MPSF statistics of the Bruins turn pale. The number of times that UCLA has been able to achieve a win in the overall season total to be 16. These wins have been registered after the Bruins suffered
13 victories in all.
Other than that, the Bruins have been able to gather nine wins in the MPSF. However, their number of losses in the MPSF stands to be greater as they have been defeated 12 times in all.
As soon as the first set of the match started, USC took charge. They did not waste any time in coming into form as they started their game with excellent skill and took the lead at 17-7. Whatever thoughts the Bruins had of defeating the Trojans were challenged
severely as they were beaten down fiercely by USC. The opening set of the match did not take long to reach its close as the Trojans bagged it ay 25-12.
The Trojans did not relax in the second set either and sent a message to all the other teams that they take their game seriously by securing another early lead at 18-8. The Bruins tried to step up their game and brought it close but the Trojans pulled up
ahead and sealed the deal at 25-22.
After winning the first two games, it was not a tough job for the Trojans to make the third set the final one and they readily took it 25-21.
“They’re a good serving team,” UCLA senior libero Tom Hastings said of the Trojans. “Our passing wasn’t the best tonight, and it’s definitely something we need to focus on during practice. If we get that down, we’ll have more scoring chances.”
