This is a basic profile of me.....

GPA: 4.0 (unweighted)

AP Exams taken so far: Biology(5), World History(4), U.S. History(4), Physics B(3), English Language(5), Calculus AB (5)

ACT: 31 composite, 9 on essay

SAT: 740 writing, 690 math, 680 reading (2110 total)

I play soccer, have 2 part time jobs , am in like 5 honor societies, captain of academic team, play violin and viola (have been accepted into county orchestra on both), and have done at least 100 hours of volunteer work throughout high school..... I'm also in at least the top 10% if not 5% of my class.

oh and I'm from New York and plan to study pre-med....

do you think I can get into UVA, and if so, can i possibly get a 75%-100% scholarship (possibly the Jefferson scholarship)?

  1. I agree with that answer saying the ACT/SAT needs to increase. Your activities look great and you have taken a great schedule of classes. BUT most of the type that wins the major, large scholarships somewhere selective have near perfect test scores and be in the top couple of your class.

All that said, you are worthy and you have  done a great job. You will be fine and you will accomplish your goals. You should get into UVA but I do not know how much money that you will get. They are one of those state schools that have heavy enrollment from their own state.

You are more likely to get money from good state schools in your state. Maybe you could get adventurous for medical school and go there if this does not work out at this time.

All that being said -- this is the only time in your life to apply to the schools that interest you and see what happen. I teach advanced classes and I as I always say if you do not apply to what you want, you will never know what might have happened. Go for it and then you can "figure" after that.

  2. I think you'll get in for sure. I think your chances of the Jefferson Scholarship are slim unless you increase your SAT scores. The average score for a Jefferson Scholar is a 2240.

  3. Just let you know that UVA is one of the top 5 most preppy colleges in the nation. If you are one of them, then this school will fit you nicely. As a Wake Forest and pre-med student myself, I doubt you could get that much scholarships. But you are pretty much locked in to be accepted. Why not consider NYU and U-Rochester? Those are prestigious schools too. Private colleges give more scholarships because a public school like UVA is created to serve in state students unless you have an execeptional SAT score. I have done a lot of research for colleges, and believe me, apply to a lot of schools to see which ones offer you the most.

  4. sure my dear ...... 75 to 85....... be confident....

  5. Do you really want to go to this school?

    Like really bad?

Then don't worry: colleges look just as much as how well you do as how much you want to be there.  If you do really well because maybe your parents are behind you all of the time and it shows in your essays, then a college might be reluctant to accept you. However, with performance that good and if you really want to go to UV then I suggest you stop worrying so much about it and just focus on doing the things that interest you.  You can't walk into college already exhausted. =)
