  1. Engineering...first, Lawyer...second, Comp. Sci....third

    but hey, its just me.

Engineering incorporates many different avenues and can be a well paying job...Land Devreloping, Govt. contracts, Bechtel, Construction, Architecture and you can pretty much land a job anywhere with that.

Lawyer, even if you dont become one...it's still a great degree to have...just Criminal Justice alone opens doors into Police work, or as an attorney in a firm, by yourself, a lot of Corporations have legal departments...

Comp. Science is pretty laid back environments to work in.  Chill but nerdy folks- theyre always pretty cool.  Always thinking.  maybe some downtime here and there, but well paying.

Finance- boooring.  But there are a lot of corporations and businesses that need someone with a finance degree- plan on a 9-5'er and routine c**p.  Unless you use it for Real Estate or Loan Mortgaging stuff like that- that'd be fun.

Dont listen in regard to tech school vs. degree.  People want degrees where ever you go...AA degree, BA degree- no where, but on occasion, do I see a business ad requiring a tech school certificate.  Nowadays business world is competitive and a degree puts u on top.

(save for maybe the computer science one, maybe).

  2. It depends what you like if you like physics and math then go for engineering, if you prefer math only and business then go for finance/ economics, if your really good on the computer and math then get into computer science and if your good a english and like to debate then law is for you. It really depends on what you like. maybe a career counselor  would help or try some career tests.

  3. Definitely not economics.  You can (a) be a professor of economics, or (b) become a talking head on TV.  The latter are few and far between; the former rely on having a good economy so that universities are actually hiring for more of those positions.

I'd never want to be a lawyer; my perception of it is that working in a firm, you're put on the most mind-numbingly dull stuff, until you've been there a decade or more.  And if you have your own practice, you always have to worry about drawing in enough business to pay for everything.

Computer science would certainly be interesting, but I know too many computer scientists who are having (and have long been having) trouble finding work.  So while I'd certainly recommend some coursework in that field, if you can, I'd personally advise against it as a major.

Of those, I'm personally drawn to engineering.  I hold a BS in Mathematics, myself, so engineering's the closest to my heart from your bunch; moreover, I keep seeing job ads for engineers when I start to job hunt.

I don't know about what the others have said about accountants always being in demand; I do know that's true enough in my hometown, of about 250,000, from a friend who graduated with me.  He had no trouble finding accounting work; unfortunately, he wasn't actually interested in that (and had majored in something else).

I'd scope out all of them on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' website, http://www.bls.gov/audience/students.htm... and see which they think are going to be in demand in the future.  I'd consider finding an interest inventory test to take to tell me where my interests lie.

And then I'd probably get an engineering degree with a minor in accounting and some computer science courses on the side.

  4. Very good answers from everyone so far - very good question.

Engineering is probably the most respected degree, but its hard apparently. But good engineers make tons and tons of cash.

if i had to restart evrything i would go in Engineering then for "Business/finance" i would continue with an MBA - thats the way most of the wealthiest people on earth take.

Im just starting in accounting at university tho... ya it might be boring for now - but as mentionned b4, ITS REALLY GOOD MONEY! and a secure job for life

dont do B.A. too many ppl have it, do engineering, finance, or computer science then you can still become a lawyer afterwards.

hope this helps - but chose other ppl as best answer

  5. finance/economics.  You an be an accountant.  That job is always in demand.

  6. I'm quite naf at finance/economics but that's the best one to pick. Personally I find it mind-numbingly boring, but you'll never meet a poor accountant. Everyone needs an accountant, whether they like it or not. Having said that I wouldn't go to Uni for any of those things, i would go to a vocational college, they're much more useful.

    Good Luck
