Question:

University vs. Community College?

I know that at a community college that one needs to earn 60 credits before an AA/AS degree is earned. But I read on my schools website(USF) that one only needs either 42 or 45 credits to earn an AA/AS degree. But some students already have over that amount. Give his/her credits are mostly transfer credits from community college, but should that even matter? my main question is do the number of credits differ like this between community college and a university?

  1. It depends on whether they have met degree requirements. Yes you need a certain amount of credits but they have to fulfill the degree requirements, such as they need to have the amount of English classes, social sciences classes, math classes ect that the college requires.

Some schools also have a residency requirement, meaning that you had to take a certain amount of credits at that school for it to count towards a degree. So a student can have 60 credits but they may need to have earned at least 20 or 30 of them at the college to met residency requirements.

  2. yeah, they do.

Some universities require more credits to earn a degree than community colleges...
