I planted a vegetable garden this year but I forgot to label everything I'm growing. Now I have this plant growing and I don't know what it is. It's getting taller everyday (about 3 feet tall now) with leaves that look like squash leaves. There are little yellow flowers that then become green bulbous things with spikes on the top. Then the green gradually turns black. It kinda reminds me of a spiky octopus upside down. I don't know what it is and I can't find any pictures of them On line Please does anyone know what it is?

  1. the only thing i can think it could be (without a pic) is an Eggplant, did you plant those?

  2. maybe a cucumber? a very dark variety...

cucumbers have small yellow flowers and are spiky when they start growing.

where as an eggplant has purple flowers and looks like this : http://www.hort.purdue.edu/ext/senior/ve...

  3. This sounds like something we have found growing.

What we have has leaves like "Lambs Ear" Plant. The leaves are kind of fuzzy.  They get huge and it grown into a very tall spike.  The plant looked like a weed to me at first. I almost pulled it out. But I left it and it kept growing taller.  Then the top produced a green top that flowered into yellow flowers. Now it is producing more tops, that produce more flowers.

The neighbor also has one and there's is so tall that it reached roof high. There's produced several tops and actually people like it.

I think it may be some type of wild flower? I know that bee's love it. And bee's are a benefit to a garden. The bee's help pollinate to produce more flowers, fruits and veggies.

I think if you get your answer a mystery for both of us may be solved.
