Unlocked iphone 1.14, can i add codecs to be able to watch anime formats, or a free converter?

most of my anime is in .avi format

my dvd player can play dvix format but when i bought the real dvix converter ot kept saying cant find mpeg1 audio file???

is there free converters to turn most formats into unlocked iphone playable formats?

Or a download that lets my iphone play many different formats?
