Unlucky Blonde Snapper out of the John Smiths Kent Derby semi finals
Blonde Snapper was not lucky enough to make owner, John Paul Mc Quillan, proud by winning the John Smiths Kent Derby semifinals, failing in his attempt.
Under trainer M A Wallis, Blonde Snapper was the purse winner of last month’s Kent Derby Trial Stakes (Div 1), held in Sittingbourne on the 24th of July, at the same venue where he finished fifth.
Trainer D Puddy’s Rhapsody Inblack was the star of the show as he finished first in the race and covered the distance in 29 minutes and 7 seconds.
The £200 purse winner started his chase from trap 1, presenting a terrific race from the start by leading the race till the finish line.
Lemon Maldini, trained by S Mavrias for owner John Ferris, started his race with an amazing chase, but unluckily the blue dog was defeated by the winner, by a meagre margin and finished second.
Lemon Maldini, son of Droopy Maldini out of Lemon champ, covered his distance in a total estimated time of 29 minutes and 8 seconds. He was a shoulder away from Rhapsody Inblack.
Greenacre Josh, a head away from Lemon Maldini, finished third in the race. The black dog trained by B A Clemenson, reached the wire two seconds after Lemon Maldini in 29 minutes and 10 seconds.
Blonde Snapper, son of Droopys Kewell out of Rough Charley, started his chase from trap 5. The black dog was very slow from the beginning, 1 ¼ length away from the third position holder, Greenacre Josh.
Blonde Snapper was the favourite for this race, but his unimpressive performance made him loose the title, as well as a chance of winning the finals.
Last month in the Kent Derby Trial Stakes (Div 1), Blonde Snapper started racing from trap 6, showed a brilliant chase as soon as he started and was leading all other hounds in no time to win a purse of £200.
His contender, Rhapsody Inblack, shined in the semifinals. He faced a defeat at the hands of Blonde Snapper a month earlier which he avenged in the semifinals.
Trainer J J Coleman’s Special Merlin was 4 ¾ length behind Blonde Snapper, finishing fifth in 29 minutes and 19 seconds.
Text Bernie, trained by M A Cumner, finished last in the race, covering the distance in 30 minutes and 7 seconds.
