Question:

Unpaid Speeding Ticket Nevada?

I am a British citizen living in California on a J1 visa. On March 24th 2008 whilst on vacation I received a speeding ticket in Clark County, Nevada. Posted speed was 70 mph, I was doing 92 mph and I was cited as doing 87 mph.

I was given the ticket and told to call the number and I would find out how much the fine was. Anyway, I continued on my journey and planned on calling the number once I was back in San Francisco. But when I got home the ticket had got all dirty and the citation number was obscured and I couldn't read it. I called the number and tried to talk to someone about it and they said if I don't know my citation number there is nothing I ca do about it.

I left it at that and so I haven't paid anything. I am leaving the country on August 25th to go back to the UK as my J1 visa has run out. I am really worried that there is going to be trouble when I try to leave the country. What if a warrant is out for my arrest? Can they do this? What can I do?

  1. Maybe you can call the British embassy and ask for their advice.

  2. call the clark county warrants division at (702) 828-3111

and ask them, they will tell you over the phone.Explain everything,if you are truly worried you can ask and then pay the fine,if you are leaving the USA and don't plan on coming back for awhile,I wouldn't worry about it.

  3. I'm going to go with looking up the Clack county, Nevada police department online...Telling them the date and time of the offence.  Get their opinion on what to do.  Good luck and have some fish and chips for me..Peace and safe travels

  4. Clark County covers different jurisdictions, try Las Vegas Justice Court to start with, all you need is your name and date of birth and they'll be able to look up the ticket. DO NOT call 828-3111 it's the police non emergency line they won't be able to help you.  If LV Justice Court isn't it try Moapa Justice Court, then Goodsprings Justice Court.  I don't know ANYWHERE in Clark County where the speed limit is 70mph...it's either 65mph or 75mph on the highways........

I doubt you'll have any problems trying to leave the country even if you have a warrant.  Just call around and if you find it you'll be able to pay it over the phone (very user friendly)

  5. WWE's umaga wouldn'tn pay the speeding ticket, he'd get out of the car and give the cop a "samoan spike".
