Question:

Unplugged a damaged cord, now breaker won't reset?

As I was unplugging my nintendo, I pulled from the cord instead of the plug thing. I forgot that this was a cord that my puppy chewed through and that the cord was only being held together by some creative re-wiring and electrical tape. When I unplugged it, there were a lot of sparks and a loud popping noise and all the lights in my room went off. I unplugged the remaining plug part of the nintendo and then tried to reset the breaker. The switch will turn off but I can't get it to stay in the on position. Is there anything that I can do to make the rest of the outlets and lights in my room work before the electrician can get here? (without getting too complicated, since I have absolutely NO experience dealing with electricity issues...)

  1. sounds like the outlet shorted out and its still shorting-best thing to do is leave things alone till they show up-leave breaker off its doing it job by stopping a fire

  2. Wait for the electrician! You probably need a new breaker, or there are wires touching inside the outlet.
