Unplugging Speaker While Playing?

Whenever I unplug my green audio plug while my speakers are playing it makes a weird sound. Is it bad to do that?

  1. Of course it's bad, you ninny!!! you could burn up your speakers or amp or both. Always turn your amp before connecting or disconncting speakers


  2. Yes - very bad.  Provide more information and I will explain to you why it is bad.

  3. what is the green wire for? is it an input or is it a speaker connection? the only green wire that I can think of in a component system is a ground to the turn table.

    if it is a speaker connection, then yes, this is bad! the audio amp does not like to play into an open connection. you could destroy the audio amp.

  4. You probably will not hurt either your computer or the speakers but it would be a good idea to turn your speakers down before unplugging the connector.

    Remember that the audio card in pretty much all computers is "live" all the time regardless of whether there is a speaker plugged in.  It does not hurt it to have no speakers plugged in.
