Would a player be rushed back on to the playing arena as quickly as Ben, if he needed a knee reconstruction. ?

Especially as Bens' medical treatment has not been completed.

  1. Excellent point Jemima.  I totally agree.

I always thought that WCE club rushed Ben onto the playing field too soon after his rehab stint.  WCE argue that they were advised by doctors to have Ben play as part of his recover plan...pffft.  WCE were struggling both on field and off field and needed positive publicity.  Such a shame.

He has an illness and chucking him onto the field was an ill advised mistake by the club and doctors as Ben has proven.

He should have continued intense rebab and therapy in WA until he was 100% well again.

  2. Don't forget about how much the AFL had to do with rushing him back on the park. Theyu have to carry some of the responsibility too.

  3. Apparently those in charge of this trippers rehab , suggested that a return to the game, would greatly assist to improve his health and wellbeing.!       It was at their insistence, his return to the game in'07 was fast forwarded rather than '08.         Its one of the easiest task's in life  to be a critic, without being briefed, and knowing FACT'S, so its useless to speculate , simply on news reports.     What's done is done, now  past, can't be changed and with it  appears a decorated football career may also be over , unless the AFL accept a future draft nomination.       What bothers me now, is the listed 18yo players due to be drafted in November.     Four Victorian players were selected last year by the Eagles, and from within the families of these young players, in the '07draft  I would imagine a great feeling of unease and dismay exist's,  that a son could become a player ,in  what now appears to be, the h**l hole of AFL football , the WEST COAST EAGLES.

  4. for starters im from WA and the moron who says wa teams should be kicked out the afl get off your high horse afl would be worse off clown

and next it was bens decison to play and i think it would of helped him more than if he didnt. it would have taken his mind of it and he wouldnt be sitting at home thinking too much

he would never be 100% and never will be because drugs is such a big part os society he will always be under pressure.

the reason he got in **** is he isnt a smart guy he shouldnt of been going out. he is connected to the underowrld which was a poor decision on his behalf. he shouldnt of even had drugs near him until the heat was off him. im sure lots of afl players have done party drugs and prob still do which isnt a concern if they dont get caught. it isnt perforamnce inhanceing probly is even worse for you. but the fact ben gets caught shows how stupid he is he went too far and did it at wrong times.

it has now cost his team big time as i think thats part of the reaosn judd left. now ben is gone eagles wont be the same.

he just should have smartened up now the spotlight is off him he will be better off and just play footy for fun without being paid big time which again will help his problem

sorry but it a touchy topic and their my views

  5. 28 days does not rehabilitate a person. his "apology" the first time was very smug, and look at the result.

  6. yes i agree

  7. I`m an unprofessional moron in the West. Stuffing around on Answers when I`m supposed to be working.

    Shame!

  8. Well first of Wa suxs both da teams should be kicked out of da Afl. And Cousins should never of played football again.

  9. I am not sure if you are referring to all West Australians, the West Coast Eagles or someone else, but I think you will find it was Ben himself who wanted to get back playing as soon as possible and this decision was supported by his doctors and counsellors.  The AFL and the Eagles applied stringent conditions to Ben's return, including regular drug tests, Ben having to cease his contacts with the underworld figures in Perth he is known to associate with, and stay out of trouble with the Police, and obviously keep up with rehab, etc (on this point, no, he wasn't "cured" or "better", but Ben and his advisors felt he could play for the rest of the season and go back to rehab at the end of the season for more ongoing treatments and counselling, etc).

Ben appeared to be doing well, and he and his doctors and psych's all convinced the AFL and the Eagles that he was fine to start playing again.  I mean, let's face it, we still don't know if Ben was under the influence of any illegal drugs the other day, only that he had Valium on him.  Valium can be used to control anxiety after coming off drugs like methamphetamines and are also used to counteract anxiety - understandable after Chris Mainwaring died two weeks ago.  Maybe Ben wasn't in any trouble at all and the cops were over the top in arresting him and the Eagles were hasty in firing him?  I guess we won't really know if this is part of something bigger until the court hearing in Jan.
