  1. Endorphins

  2. 1. Morphine is a chemical. It does not have ingredients--it IS the ingredient. The reason it is addictive is because it acts like the chemicals the brain makes on its own, called "endogenous opioids" which reduce the experience of pain. If a patient takes morphine for long enough, the brain begins to count on the additional morphine and reduces the amount of natural endogenous opioids that are produced. This need for an outside source for pain relief (the morphine) produces physical addiction.

    2. The tissues harmed by long-term high doses of morphine include the brain, the gastrointestinal tract, the lungs, the liver, and the skin. This is not a full list, just some of the more important ones.

But finally, I've got to say that demanding that only doctors and top contributors should type responses is ridiculous. There are physicians assistants, nurses, surgical technicians, and especially pharmacists, who could explain it as well or better than some Drs. Something to think about.
