Question:

Unruly children in daycare...how would you handle this?

I have a friend who works in a daycare (his class consists of 2-3 year olds). There are a few "problem" children in the class. They hit, spit, bite, won't sit for their time outs, scream, etc. One child has his mother called on a semi-regular basis because the daycare workers simply cannot handle him. I am appalled......doesn't his mother feel embarrassed? Why does she not do anything about it? Has this ever happened to any of you, and if so, what did you do about your child misbehaving?

  1. I think the best thing someone can do is take stuff away from them.  There at daycare to have fun.  If they realize they aren't going to have fun, than they should start conforming a bit.  I just volunteered for a summer camp.  It was a little different because my kids were 11, and the camp was 8-14, but hopefully the kids will be able to figure it out.  Don't let them finger paint, take the ball away.  Don't let them have dessert.  The only really effective thing you can do without spanking the kid (and if there not your kids, I sure wouldn't smack em) is to withhold privileges.

  2. My kid would NEVER act like that and if they did, they'd be seeing a specialist.  The mother to the one kid you mention obviously doesn't care and can't discipline worth a c**p, either that or her kid has a behavior problem.
