  1. All areas in sydney can be unsafe, you just need to be wary of whats around you, don't go anywhere by yourself, go with a friend/friends.

  2. yeah they are definitely unsafe at night, especially if you're a girl, alone, and don't know the area very well. most suburbs in any city are dangerous at night... i wouldn't go to redfern in the day either though

  3. Hey, I was born in the Canterbury/Bankstown area and lived there all my life (I'm 16). I had never encountered any problems myself before, heaven forbid.

Yes, there are many stereotypes about south-western Sydney but they're not completely true. We are not the only area with crime but I'll be honest here: compared to other areas of Sydney, we do have the highest levels. But don't take this into the suburbs or area as a whole, but break it down to certain streets.

I hope this has helped and please do not let this reason discourage you from coming to this area. I'm very proud to be part of it.

    Cheers =]

Edit: It is fine during the day. It's around night time where it may be unsafe.

  4. i think all areas are both safe and dangerous a lot depends on your attitude and how u behave and the time of day, the areas you mention have been heavily targeted by the media to stir up racial violence, but that's only my opinion...

  5. king cross stay away no go area

  6. cronulla, bankstown, lakemba, redfern, springwood, katoomba, mt druitt, kings cross, st marys, blacktown, aurburn, granville are the rough suburbs.

  7. It depends on what you're comparing it to. Sydney is still far safer than just about every city in the US or England, but it does have some troubles.

If you keep your wits about you, dont go to isolated or dark places alone and dont flash your valuables around it would be very unlikely that your will have any troubles in any parts of Sydney.

The way some people go on, you'd think the South West of Sydney is war zone. It's not. Just use common sense and you'll be ok.

  8. Yes there are many unsafe suburbs in Sydney.

I have heard some horrific crimes etc. Tourists being beaten to death, drive-by shootings at restaurants etc.

Having lived in Sydney for around 5 years, and visiting it 3 times a year, I know for a fact that these suburbs you mention ARE unsafe. Redfern you do NOT drive through by yourself, even in the day. Bankstown is very violent and has large numbers of leb youths fighting.

I would also avoid Blacktown at night, Mount Druit and Bidwill. Kings Cross in the city is also a no-go zone!

It is best not to wonder in Sydney by yourself, especially at night! People may say that Sydney is safe, and I may get the thumbs down for saying this but, I honestly would feel safer in New York with all the people than in Sydney.

Thanks for the question and be safe! :)

Edit: Azza, South West Sydney is a war zone! lol

Having said all that, Sydney is a fantastic place with heaps to do! It is like a massive city built on the thesis of the beach!

  9. bankstown is like going out side to your rubbish bin...and living in that..except it would b better than bankstown

  10. Sydney is a real safe city generally speaking, but like every big city in the world it has a few not so warmfull places. My personal opinion is that you as tourist and young woman should avoid places like Canterbury/Bankstown and Kingscross. Kingcross during the day is a nice place to go, there you can find a few cafes and Good/cheap restaurants( Victoria st) that hide the problems of the area, but in the night the things got a little bit different and this area got not so safe to go alone.
