Question:

Unsatisfied with my writting...?

Some times I am unsatisfied with my writing and I love to write but is it natural or do I actually suck. People at school and on the internet read my stuff and they say that they like it. I like some of my stuff because I wrote it but in a lot of my writings I find parts I really don't like should I re-write them or ask other people what they thought?

  1. really u cant change how u write but mines bad to just ull get use to it and it will be fine

  2. That's hard. I get people to read mine, and they say they like it too, but it's hard to tell whether or not they're telling the truth.

Basically, if you aren't satsfied with your writing, than change it. Because you should only ever write for yourself and not other people, otherwise it really isn't worth it.

So the choice is up to you, but remember, no one is a bigger critic than the person to whom the work belongs to.

  3. Most writers are their own worst critics. That's only natural. As a former staff writer for a major Florida newspaper, it would often take me 8 hours to write 60 lines for a feature story. I would change wording trying to convey the emotions of the person I'm writing about; try to use words to help people picture the scene, (not just "the green grass", but "the soft carpeting of grass, green as the eyes of an Irish lass..."); try to make the reader feel a part of the story or at least able to empathize with it.

Look at your writing as if you were the guy who paid 50 cents for a paper. What do you expect to read? Then write that. Work on a good vocabulary so you won't find your writing repetitive and boring. Let your words sing. Allow yourself to shine through, even if you are writing about someone or something else. Put your own personal stamp on your writing.

Read! Read! Read! Find an author or writer you like, then dissect his/her writing to see what appeals to you. This will give you insight into what you really like in writing and allow you to apply those tricks to your writing.

Above all -- keep writing. Some things will be just what you want, others not so much. But overall, it will be an expression of you. GOOD LUCK!

  4. I had hundreds of people over 40 years tell me my stuff was good and it was garbage. Only believe your critics. People who praise you, are just flatterers.

  5. A lot of the writing places on the internet have rules forbidding negative criticism. You need to find somewhere that has no such rules, where there is fierce criticism (and praise). Some great writers have been utterly dissatisfied with their work, some rubbish writers are happy with theirs. You need to get a *real* second opinion, from somebody who is into the genre in which you write (as a middle-aged man, it's not a lot of use asking me about chick-lit, for instance!)
